For the documentation of a stained glass from St. Victor´s Cathedral in Xanten, the TRACEiT system was used for the first time. It detects the structure of the surface and calculates the roughness. It based on the principle Shape from Shading. This technology is reviewed for its suitability for the objective observation of a corroded glass surface. The glasses were measured with TRACEiT and the results compared. Furthermore, the possibilities and limitations of the system were compiled anddiscussed. Another area of this work was the restoration of the stained glass, which includes thedismantling of plated glass and supplements.
